2012 Season starts slowly. Frustration abounds.
Thirteen races are in the books and nary a win can be found.
Terrible efforts by a couple vets and generally large fields, which have led to many scratches, are contributing factors in the worst opening month in Otsego Farms history.
Stowaway, Kostya, and Big Slick all had uncharacteristically poor performances. Big Slick's was the result of a hearty dislike of the heavy track, but the results of Stowaway and Kostya cannot be easily explained.
All 2yo entries thus far have been scratched due to 20-horse fields, which have become extremely commonplace in the past several seasons. We are very eager to race all of our 2yo's, especially Ultron (War Machine x Nova), but simply will not subject them to those crowded races, which are usually jostling train-wrecks.
It all adds up to a very slow start. Smiles are hard to come by...
