Race Results for Weeks 9-10

Another relatively light week was headlined by the speedy sprinter Nova. Our two "big" boys, Big Easy and Big Slick both ran as well.

Nova ran in the Gr2 Distaff Handicap at 7 furlongs on dirt. She went off as the 8-5 favorite in spite of the fact that she was carrying the most weight at 123 lbs. Nova led virtually from wire-to-wire for the win, in track record time. Her toughest challenge came from the 4yo Bally Doyle mare Ab-Daledigaeth, who pushed Nova continuously before slipping 2 lengths back, finishing second at the finish. A few days ago, upon learning that AD was entering the Distaff Handicap, I invited Amanda to withdraw rather than face Nova, but she maintained that her mare was up to the challenge, and she was right. It was a grand effort by Ab-Daledigaeth.

Big Easy came back perhaps a bit early and responded sluggishly in finishing 6th in the 7 furlong San Carlos Handicap. The race was won, in world record time, by the 4yo male from Akuma no Heya, Mr Purler.

Big Slick, our 2yo colt by Troll Tower out of Charon looked very impressive finishing 2nd in a virtual dead-heat in the 5 furlong Crackerbarrel Stakes. The winner of the 20 horse field was Mardi Gras from Firstholme Racing. Big Slick led most of the way but was caught by Mardi Gras in the last furlong. They were neck and neck down the stretch and both finished with the same time of 0:57.82, but after checking the photo, the stewards awarded the win to Mardi Gras by a nose.

With this weeks results, Otsego Farms has a season record of 15-3-6-2, with earnings of $538,750. Record-wise, it's the best season start we've ever had.
